Gait & Running Analysis

What Is Gait Analysis?

Gait analysis is an in-depth assessment of your running technique and movement patterns. It helps improve efficiency, enhance performance, and identify the underlying causes of pain or injury. It can also guide you toward the most suitable running footwear.

At Comfort Health, we’ve developed a comprehensive gait and running analysis package that examines how you move, why you may be experiencing discomfort, and what changes can help you run stronger and injury-free, whether you’re new to running or an experienced athlete.

Why Get Your Running Analysed?

A detailed running assessment provides insight into:

  • Hip, knee and ankle positioning

  • Joint range of motion through the gait cycle (foot strike, mid-stance, toe-off)

  • Step rate and stride length

  • Muscle strength, flexibility, and imbalances

By identifying restrictions, weaknesses, or inefficient patterns, we can create a targeted plan to reduce injury risk, improve comfort, and boost your running performance.

How Gait Analysis Improves Performance

Running efficiently means using less energy to move faster for longer. During your session, we identify movement patterns that reduce your running economy , for example, excessive pelvic drop, overstriding, or limited hip extension.

Small, targeted adjustments (like improving stride width or increasing cadence) can make measurable improvements to your speed, endurance, and overall performance.

How It Helps Prevent Injury

One of our main goals at Comfort Health is keeping runners pain-free. Since every runner’s technique is unique, changes must always be individualised.

We identify factors that may be contributing to pain or making you more susceptible to injury, such as:

  • Tight calves or Achilles limiting ankle mobility, increasing the risk of Achilles tendon issues

  • Tight hamstrings or quads restricting knee movement and leading to knee or hip pain

  • Weak glutes increasing pelvic drop and loading on the lower limbs

  • Low cadence or long stride length increasing impact forces

By correcting these issues, we help you run comfortably and consistently.
