Jenny Buckley – Physiotherapist and Pilates Instructor
I have always had an interest in sport, playing badminton competitively from a young age, so it was probably inevitable that my career would take me in a therapy direction. Having completed a BSc in Sports Conditioning and Coaching at UWE as well as additional qualifications in Sports Massage, I decided to focus my career in rehabilitation. In 2010 I qualified as a Physiotherapist from Birmingham University.
My initial physiotherapy experience was within the NHS, working in a variety of departments for Wiltshire Primary Care Trust before moving into private healthcare at The Spire, Bristol. Here I focused on post-operative rehabilitation.
In December 2016, some life changes pushed me toward self-employment – something I have never looked back from. Comfort Health opened it’s doors in January 2017 and I also began working in events, providing therapists to outdoor endurance events throughout the UK. It was always an intention to be able to combine knowledge gained in my BSc with that of my physiotherapy. Working at Comfort Health has enabled me to do that, where I am now also a Sports Massage Therapist and more recently a qualified Pilates instructor.
My life is not all work though! Shoulder surgery saw the end of my badminton career and break from competitive sport – something I missed greatly. I have in recent years filled the “competitive gap” with triathlon, where I now compete in the GB Age Group Team at European and World Championships. Always ready for the next challenge, I will be focusing on middle distance triathlon in 2019. I am lucky to have a very supportive family and partner, as well as time to spend with my 2 wonderful nephews. Exciting times!
