Audiology is the study of hearing and balance, and their associated disorders. These disorders are diagnosed and treated by an audiologist. You can think of an audiologist as a “hearing doctor.” However they are healthcare qualified not medically.
Our audiologist Ian can help with a range of different areas or problems:
-ear wax removal
Hearing problems can be caused by a wide range of different things; from ear trauma to a build up of wax. They are also very common; 1 in 5 people in the UK experience hearing loss. Unassisted hearing loss is proven to be a significant contributory factor to the onset of dementia.
If you have any of the following, you may benefit from seeing our specialist:
-an ear infection
-tinnitus (hearing a variety of sounds or high pitched tones)
All of these conditions can be caused by a build up of wax which can be removed through ear microsuction.
Microsuction is the gentle removal of ear wax. It uses a binocular operating microscope to look straight into the ear canal and removes the wax build up by a fine suction device at safe low pressure. This makes the procedure much quicker, safer and comfortable for the patient than other methods.
Thus, the microsuction technique for ear wax removal means it is usually pain free. It is also safe for people who have a perforated eardrum or mastoid cavity.
Here are some of the other benefits:
-minimal preparation required
-all of the wax can be cleared as the audiologist can see what they’re doing
-no water used, so no mess
